Pete Doherty was ushered offstage at a German music festival after infuriating concertgoers by singing a Nazi anthem.
The Babyshambles frontman was booked as a surprise guest at Munich's on3 live event but he threw his set into disarray after he began to perform Deutschland Uber Alles, a section of Deutschlandlied used for German propaganda under Nazi rule.
Bavarian broadcasters Bayerischer Rundfunk, who were airing the concert live this weekend (28-29Nov09), pulled the show from the airwaves moments after Doherty began the track.
Angry members of the crowd booed Doherty, who managed to sing five more songs before festival organisers led him from the stage.
Deutschland Uber Alles has not been sung since World War II due to its Nazi association. It is the opening stanza of the song Deutschlandlied, the third verse of which is currently used as the German national anthem.
