After numerous arrests for drugs-related offences over the past few months, the ex-LIBERTINE was sentenced to a 12-month community order and a drug rehabilitation programme in a London court earlier today (08FEB06).
Following the hearing, Babyshambles drummer Adam Ficek and bassist DREW McCONNELL are confident Doherty can put his drug trouble behind him and propel the band to the recognition they believe it deserves. After nearly two years together, the band has hit the headlines for repeatedly cancelling gigs, and debut album DOWN IN ALBION flopped upon its November (05) release.
Ficek said, "We are thrilled for (Pete) and for the band and we can go forward now.
"He is very talented in a musical sense and with the written word. The general public are yet to recognise that."
McConnell adds, "We were very nervous about what the sentence would be but it's a result. We can't wait to see Pete and make plans for the rest of the year."
