Pee Wee Herman, the comic fictional creation of actor Paul Reubens, is returning to HBO after the network confirmed that it will broadcast 'The Pee Wee Herman Show' next year, a Broadway production based on the original stage show. The program will air three decades after the original 'Pee Wee Herman Show' debuted on HBO and quickly became one of the station's most successful shows.
The forthcoming show, being billed as a 'special', will reunite the original characters including 'Mailman Mike', 'Cowboy Curtis', 'Miss Yvonne' as well Herman himself. Announcing the news, HBO senior vice president of original programming NANCY GELLER said, "Before his hit series and movies, HBO introduced Paul Reubens' Pee-wee Herman to a national audience in the 'Young Comedians' series, followed by the ground-breaking 1981 special", before adding, "It's thrilling to have Paul back on the network, and it will be a blast to return to Pee Wee's Playhouse".
A date is yet to be confirmed for the new show, but it will shoot at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York in January 2011 immediately following the conclusion of the show's current Broadway run which comes to an end on 2nd January.
