Spanish director Pedro Almodovar has given the thumbs-up to the new West End incarnation of his Oscar-nominated movie Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown.

The Antonio Banderas film was adapted for the stage in 2010, but it flopped on Broadway and its run ended early.

It has been revived in London in a new reworking starring Green Wing's Tamsin Greig, and Almodovar was in the audience for the previews at The Playhouse theatre. He has now given the show his blessing ahead of opening night on Monday (12Jan15).

In a question-and-answer session that was beamed to cinemas in the U.K. ahead of a screening of the original movie, Almodovar called the new West End version "wonderful".

He added, "This is an incredible tribute to my country. I feel very grateful."
