The troubled 51 year old, who has battled cocaine and alcohol addictions, signed up for the programme alongside former The Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Steps singer Claire Richards, and Australian actor Ryan Moloney.
They are among 12 celebrities who will live together in a secure property in London, monitored round-the-clock by surveillance cameras.
The show launched on Thursday (03Jan12) with the property divided in two, and Hamilton was among the star contestants confined to a grubby, dank basement with no windows and no running water.
However, within hours a doctor had been called in and Hamilton was allowed to move to the standard accommodation after falling ill.
A post on the show's website on Friday (04Jan12) reads, "In the wee (early) hours of last night, coconut-fan and self-described eccentric, Paula came over a little unwell. But don't get too upset. After receiving advice from the Big Brother doctor, the decision was taken to move our former supermodel from the dank Cbb basement to the glorious world above. She is a new luxury housemate."
