Paula Deen's use of the N-word indirectly helped CNN Monday night. In the aftermath of the controversy surrounding Deen's admitted use of the word -- and its repeated use during the Treyvon Martin case -- CNN decided to air a special examining use of the N-word by both whites and blacks. The special, hosted by CNN anchor Don Lemmon and featuring a panel that included LeVar Burton, Tim Wise, Wynton Marsalis and Donna Brazile, drew 612,000 viewers, according to overnight Nielsen results -- substantially higher than the 468,000 that CNN ordinarily averages in the 8:00 p.m. hour on Mondays. CNN did not upload the program to its website, but a poor-quality copy has been posted on YouTube (in four parts).
