Paula Deen, the American celebrity cook, restaurateur and EMMY AWARD winning television personality, recently gave evidence in court that led to her former housekeeper MARY ALICE WHITE being convicted of theft, reports E! Online. White was sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting to stealing jewellery from Deen and her husband MICHAEL GROVER during the nine months that she worked for the couple.
Deen had told the police earlier this year that more than $100,000 worth of men's and women's jewellery was missing from her home in Georgia. The cook then began receiving calls from locals alerting her of the fact that the jewellery was appearing in pawn shops. White was later arrested after attempting to pawn a pair of $18,000 earrings as well as a Rolex watch and a $2,500 bracelet.
An insider said that the conviction has resulted in Deen losing her ability to trust, the source said, "They haven't recovered everything. She only worked for Paula for about eight months but Paula thought she had found someone who could take care of her home, especially when she's out of town..This has definitely hurt her ability to trust. Paula fell for this woman hook, line and sinker".
