Pop star Paula Abdul enjoyed a private Bat Mitzvah ceremony in Israel over the weekend (02-03Nov13) after deciding against plans to stage the belated event in public at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

The Opposites Attract singer is currently reconnecting with her Jewish roots during a visit to Israel, and she recently announced she would be undergoing the coming-of-age ceremony, which is traditionally celebrated by 12 to 13-year-old girls, at the holy place of worship.

However, Abdul had a change of heart about the high-profile event and instead chose to hold the Bat Mitzvah privately in the town of Safed, according to officials from the Tzfat Kabbalah Center, which took charge of the bash.

Officiating Rabbi Eyal Riess adds that Abdul, who was already suffering from jet-lag, wanted to avoid the media attention so she could focus on the religious meaning of the ceremony.
