Paul Young has encouraged One Direction to party hard.

The 'Wherever I Lay my Hat (That's My Home)' star was a teen idol in the 80s, with hits such as 'Love Of The Common People' and 'Come Back And Stay', and hopes the stars of today have as much fun as he did in his heyday.

He told BANG Showbiz: ''I always say the best of luck to the ones who are carrying it off well, which is JLS and One Direction - Who seem to have gone in a good direction. They are getting the right songs, that type of thing.''

Referring to the latter band's lothario Harry Styles - who has been linked to women including Taylor Swift, Kimberly Stewart and Caroline Flack - he added: ''They're young, they're single, go out and do what you want, and do it well.''

Paul Young plays Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park on July 7th, JLS headline the night, plus The Beach Boys, The Saturdays, The Gruffalo and Horrible Histories. Tickets are available from
