Veteran singer/songwriters Paul Simon and James Taylor are set to take centre stage at an upcoming benefit concert to salute the memory of their late friend, saxophonist Michael Brecker.

Brecker was diagnosed with blood-related disease Myelodisplastic Syndrome in 2004 and died three years later (07), at the age of 57, after failing to find a suitable bone marrow donor.

Now the tragic musician's legacy will be honoured with performances by Simon, Taylor and Bobby MCFerrin, among others, at The Nearness of You charity gig in New York City next year (15).

Actor Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-lee Furness will serve as the benefit chairs, while U.S. newswoman Meredith Vieira will host the 20 January (15) event to support cancer research at Columbia University Medical Center.
