Patty Jenkins has dropped out of directing 'Thor 2'.

The filmmaker - who directed Charlize Theron to an Oscar in 2003 movie 'Monster' - has quit the Marvel Studios sequel, which is expected to hit cinemas in November 2013, over "creative difference", although she is set to helm a Marvel feature in the future, reports.

Chris Hemsworth will return as the titular hero while Natalie Portman will once again play his love interest Jane Foster with Anthony Hopkins as his father Odin.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, recently confirmed some details of The Script, revealing the movie will see further character developments for Thor and Jane Foster and more extraterrestrial visits to the nine planes of existence in the imaginary universe.

He said: "It will take Thor literally to other worlds 'Thor 2' would primarily be the Journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster and how the new dynamic with his is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds."

Although the sequel will come to screens in 2013, Chris will next be seen as the legendary Norse God in 'The Avengers' alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.
