Punk icon Patti Smith is set to follow her recent U.S. National Book Awards success by penning a detective novel set in London.
The Because The Night singer announced her latest literary venture during a lecture at London's Royal Geographic Society's Intelligence Squared series on Wednesday night (25Nov11).
She explained, "I've been working on a detective story that starts at St. Giles in the Fields in London for the last two years."
She revealed the idea for the book was inspired by her many visits to London and her childhood love of Sherlock Holmes.
Smith told fans the book is "68 per cent done".
The singer/writer's memoir Just Kids, which chronicles her relationship with late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, was honoured at the National Book Awards in November (10).
