Patrick Wolf is pleased to announce a run of live shows in the UK and Europe for 2013 to celebrate the Winter solstice and a chance to debut some of his new material and productions, The shows include stop-offs in Germany, Russia, Spain and a finale UK show at London's Union Chapel.
Madonna recently saw Wolfs collaboration with the video artist Matt Lambert, a short film recorded last winter in Berlin and personally requested for it to be premiered on her website Art for Freedom, a collaborative art activism website she started with acclaimed photographer Steven Klein. The premier went live on 6th November at 12.00 EST, with a soundtrack provided by a recent re-working of "The Libertine" a new string quartet and military drum arrangement of the opening track from 2005's seminal Wind in The Wires, recorded for his 10 year anniversary retrospective double album "Sundark and Riverlight"
Wolf has also penned a new poem for this video written while researching beat poetry at the beginning of the year during an artist residency in San Francisco:
'Nature gave us freedom
Government rustling Keys
The terrorist and testament
But never slow
Of being free.'
This autumn Patrick has returned from a mammoth 10 year anniversary World tour, from two sold out night at the Sydney opera house to a packed out great American music hall in San Francisco, taking in some of the coldest climates last winter through Latvia, Norway and Russia. The tour was planned as time to be a writing expedition, packing everything into storage and living for a year nomadic with only his instruments.
Towards the end of the tour Patrick was invited by Yoko Ono to perform at Meltdown festival where he sung songs from John and Yoko's Double Fantasy album and was reunited with Patti Smith and Tony Shanahan where he went on to finish last dates of Patti's Banga tour on Celtic harp and viola. Patrick soon became the new signing to Patti smiths booking agent Primary Talent, alongside some of his all time heroes John Cale and the late Lou Reed.
Now back home in the U.K and setting up a new studio in London to start recording his next album, Wolf is choosing a few shows around winter solstice, as a chance to debut some of what was written during his journey as well as new arrangements of songs from the more winter realms of his songwriting, alongside select covers of his favourite winter songs by other artists. On this tour Patrick will be playing piano, the tenor guitar, harp, viola, kantale, Theremin and re-introducing electronics to his live set. Accompanied by WillemWiebe VanderMolen on accordion, Victoria Sutherland on Violin, Emma Frampton on Woodwind and too some surprise guest appearances.
We are pleased to announce the incredible harpist and singer/songwriter Serafina Steer will be providing support for the UK dates.
