French author Patrick Modiano has been awarded the 2014 Nobel Prize for literature.
Modiano was presented with the prestigious award at a short ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden on Thursday (09Oct14).
Officials stated the honour was awarded "for the art of memory with which he has evoked the most ungraspable human destinies and uncovered the life-world of the occupation".
Modiano has previously won the Austrian State Prize for European Literature and the Prix mondial Cino Del Duca award for lifetime achievement.
He is the 107th winner of the prize and follows in the footsteps of Toni Morrison, Rudyard Kipling, and Ernest Hemingway.
