Patricia Heaton, the American television actress best known for her role on 'Everybody Loves Raymond', temporarily deleted her Twitter account this week after ranting about Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke and siding with Rush Limbaugh, who has already been slammed for his ill-advised remarks.
After a Capitol Hill speech about free contraception, student Fluke was labelled a "slut" and a "prostitute" by broadcaster Limbaugh - causing outrage from left-leaning political commentators and on social networks. However, actress Heaton took to her Twitter account to post a series of tweets mocking Fluke's political efforts, saying, ""Hey G-Town Gal: Plz let us also pay for your Starbucks, movie theater tickets and your favorite hot wings combo deal at Kfc! Anything else?", before adding, "Hey G-Town Gal: If your parents have to pay for your birth control, maybe they should get a say in who you sleep with!" Instant birth control!". Despite a barrage of criticism, the actress wasn't finished there and continued, "If every Tweaton sent Georgetown Gal one condom, her parents would have to cancel basic cable, & she would never reproduce -- sound good?". Heaton later deleted the tweets and closed down her Twitter page in its entirety, before returning to tell followers, "I apologized to Ms Fluke last week. I may not agree with her views but I didn't treat her with respect and I'm sorry. I was wrong. Mea Culpa".
