This album is really good and I’m really impressed with it. The music is produced by quality UK producers such as Mr Thing, Harry Love, Braintax and features great artists such as Lewis Parker. There’s a real roundness to this album. You don’t get bored listening to it. There is purpose to the songs, showing good rhyming skills, clever wordplay and genuine honesty. There is no pretension in ‘The Essance’. Each track has a quality hip hop ‘essance’ and it tells the truth from this honest orator. The tracks are positive, very much from the traditional school of hip-hop and creative. For example ‘Chef YG’ is a fun journey into the smooth Yungun using ‘Food Glorious Food’ melody in the chorus taken from Oliver Twist, making the track very unique and very British that works well. I particularly liked ‘City Breaks’. Yungun talks about the troubles of city life and how nice it is to get to natural beautiful places. I could really relate to his words and he shows excellent MCing, great play on words and a genuine message which can lost on a lot show boating hip-hop. The music on this album is really good. There’s tracks that make you think and make you dance. The roundness of this album demonstrates to me that the UK really can challenge the USA with regards to pushing hip-hop in a positive and meaningful way. There’s no reason to me why Yungun can’t do well overseas with this truly excellent effort.
