Time Splitters: Future perfect is the third installment of the crazy time hopping first person shooter series that has never quite delivered original game-play but has always entertained in a unique way.

In TimeSplitters Future Perfect, victory is in the hands of the player's past, present, and future self in a battle that stretches throughout time where humanity is on the brink of destruction from the malevolent TimeSplitters. Cortez—the tough-as-nails hero from previous installments—finds himself in a frantic race against time in a desperate bid to trace the origin of the TimeSplitters and save mankind.

Featuring innovative "meet and assist yourself" game-play, TimeSplitters Future Perfect challenges you to team up with past, present and future versions of yourself as you battle your way through an action-packed story spanning more than 500 years and loaded with the series' trademark humor.

Game modes are aplenty in this; version three of the series. Arcade mode features a death match league which has you splatting bots to gain trophies. Challenge mode offers up some interesting single player experiences and story mode is both compelling and entertaining.

Multi player action is really where it's at. There are many multi-player options to choose from although many are slight variations of death matches. Team games are also present in the form of capture the bag and assault modes. When it comes to bots you can play all the above modes with bots of varying skill levels and unless the bot AI is ramped up you should find them fairly easy picking – especially if you are used to playing FPS titles. You can also build your own bot teams setting each ones individual skill levels from 1 t 5.

When playing multi player you can use the split screen mode if you like, four splits are available, but this is an eye assault rarely appreciated these days. The choice for multiplayer mode is on-line play. This is the first time on-line play has been available in the series. 16 players per match, skill matching, free for all and team games are all present and the customizable elements of the game really come in play here.

Graphically, TimeSplitters Future Perfect is very good. All the different time zones from Victorian England to the swinging 60's and the disassociated 90's all have the feel of the time period they are supposed to represent. Cortez himself is looking great and all the other characters are well constructed too and there are well over 100 to choose from. The surroundings are also nicely detailed.

All in all TimeSplitters Future Perfect is by far the best in the series so far. This game does have a unique slant on the FPS genre but I feel that overall the let downs are in the core engine that supplies the action. There isn't much different in the engine design from old FPS titles such as Goldeneye on Nintendo 64, your character cannot jump, and with games like Unreal and Counter Strike both due to release on the Xbox this summer can TimeSplitters Future Perfect hack the competition.

The game features:

·* A deep story mode taking players from a 1914 Scottish castle to the frontlines of a robot war in 2243

·* Online multiplayer action* for up to 16 gamers on Xbox Live TM and 8-player action for the PlayStation ® 2 computer entertainment system, in 11 unique online game modes, including Deathmatch, Shrink, Thief, Capture the Bag, Virus, Vampire and more

·* Co-op mode allowing gamers to play through the entire single-player game with a friend

·* Deep Arcade and Challenge modes offering dozens of mini-games and offline multiplayer action

·* More than 150 playable characters, from robotic super soldiers and Cold War commandos to zombie nurses and pistol-packing monkeys

·* Easy-to-use Mapmaker tools allowing players to create their own single and multiplayer levels and share them online for endless replay value
