You know this game means business when you see the "Tiger Woods Needs You" expression on the front of the box. The daddy of golf games is back with its 2005 version with a gaming hole in one.

New features including Tiger Proofing, Legends Tour and an all new game face editing mode all of which excels on the previous versions.

Graphically the game is superb. 11 of the world’s most famous courses have been beautifully captured with all the lumps and bumps of their real life counterparts and environment conditions. The game face mode allows you to create new golfers with millions of combinations of both physical and technical attributes. So no matter how freaky and disfigured you may be you can design yourself and compete against the worlds best golfers within this virtual environment.

The game play itself is perfect with the True Swing control technique. Pull back the mouse for backswing then follow through to strike the ball.

The accuracy of your mouse movement is transferred to the accuracy of your swing. The shot power and levels of draw or fade are manipulated through subtle movements of the mouse. Great Stuff! The array of different shot types will please even the most seasoned golf enthusiast. All the shots are available to the Pro golfers but the best way to learn the shot techniques is to design your own amateur golfer and take the lessons as your players attributes improve. Theirs nothing more satisfying than a 280 yard drive straight down the fairway are a chip out of the bunker onto the green. However don’t trust the commentators.

It was on the green of the 18th hole at St Andrews. The dude said it was a straight put when I saw my ball drift off to the right hand side. 40 grand that cost me and I couldn’t afford my advanced flop shot lesson before the next tournament. Be warned!

The array of game modes will keep you busy for a while especially the new Tiger Proofing option. This allows you to modify any of the courses in the game. Thinning the fairways, enlarging the bunkers and sculpting the greens can create holes to make you week at the knees.

You can challenge golfing greats such as Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus in the Legends Tour to solidify your golfing status while the Scenarios mode tests your ability in certain golfing aspects.
The dream 18 mode allows you to create your own golf course from any of the original 11 which will attract the games legends as its level of prestige rises.

Tournaments and matches can also be played online through EA Sports online. This feature which is now standard on EA Sports titles greatly increases the playability and longevity of the game.

Overall it will take something special to take Tiger Woods 2005 of the top of the golf simulation mantel.
Top game play, top options and the addiction level means this game should be top of the list for any golf fan if not anyone.
