Roots Manuva, the heavyweight ‘Don’ of UK hip hop returns with ‘Colossal Insight’ on Big Dada Recordings from his eagerly awaited new album. Mr Manuva gained a lot of acclaim from his previous album ‘Run Come Save Me’ that showed inventive music and unique lyrics truly encapsulating British roots. ‘Colossal Insight’ follows a similar vein using really infectious and progressive beats. The synth sounds give it a cartoon kinda’ character that fans of Mr Scruff could
probably relate to but it’s still hip hop, it’s just very original. Manuva’s laid back rolling MCing is very personal and works really with the beats. He’s speaking from his own perspective and shows humility and a realness that makes him genuine. The whole musical experience makes for an engrossing experience that is infectious and mellow. There’s other remixes on the single showing a more dub sound and synth experimentation. I’m looking forward to hearing the new album.
