Goldfrapp "Felt Mountain" Album Review

News & Reviews
4. Goldfrapp Felt Mountain (Album; - Mute)
Released last year to great critical acclaim, Felt Mountain has now managed to clock up enough sales to earn a silver disc, selling over 60,000 copies in the UK alone. The fact then that Goldfrapp have completed two sell out UK tours and a sell out US tour should come as no surprise. The latter points also mean, of course, that they are in the running as one of the best established and well known of the Mercury Music prize nominees.
Theatrical, dramatic, enchanting it is difficult to believe that Felt Mountain was born out of only two minds - those of singer Alison Goldfrapp (lady with a voice so versatile it reaches operatic standards at times) and of keyboardist Will Gregory. Felt Mountain is a wide world full of hidden musical nooks and crannies. It refuses to be pigeonholed in any current genre, utilising a multitude of different instruments, displaying a plethora of emotions, fusing folk, cinematic scores and classical. This is a collection of beautifully reflective songs that haunt and inspire.
Forget the silver, this band are more than worth their weight in gold.
