(Epitaph 27/06/2005)

Perennially piercing punks that are the Jim Lindberg fronted Pennywise, laugh in the face of the current epidemic of one album wonders that incessantly demand more print thanJordan and Peter Andre. There is certainly something very admirable about Pennywise’s plight, as they stoically stick to their rasping guitars, thrashing percussionand uncompromising views;building upon their vast and impressive back catalogue to provide an intriguing offering with an even and honest feel.

Opener and most anthemic number that represents pop punk with a slice of Psychobilly is the enticing and thumping ‘Knock Down’, sounding so refresh that you would think it forms part of a debut and not an 8 th album. This West Coast wrath crushing outfit skirts very close to the territory of fellow uncompromising punks Good Riddance in ‘Fox TV’ and an early days Blink 182 in ‘Closer’. By all accounts, Pennywise had penned over 30 songs for this offering, but had to be content with airing half that number in an even tempo offering.'The Fuse'serves as a reminder that this band combines and embodies the spirit and beliefs of the two great J's; Peel and Strummer.
