News Homelands

Saturday 1st June 2002, 1pm - 6am
The Bowl, Matterley Estate, Near Winchester, Hampshire

Slam, Jon Carter, Jazzanova, FC Kahuna, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Shades Of Rhythm, Plump DJ's, DJ Patife (Brasil) and many more join the already massive Homelands line-up for 2002!

With an unprecedented host of talent already confirmed for 2002, including Basement Jaxx, So Solid Crew, Oxide & Neutrino, The Beta Band, Soft Cell, Zero 7 (live), Pete Tong, Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, Roots Manuva, Sasha, Jon Digweed, Gilles Peterson, Judge Jules and many, many more, Homelands have a whole host of mega DJs and acts that can now be announced for what is set to be THE dance festival of the year.

Their elasticated bass tones have touched the lives of everyone in Scotland's biggest city. As Slam, Stuart Macmillan and Orde Meikle have set the techno standard for Glasgow over the last decade. Their last album 'Alien Radio' achieved huge critical and club acclaim and with new single 'Virtuoso' about to hit the decks, Stuart and Orde will be primed to rock Homelands this summer.

Jon Carter returns to Homelands after 12 months of tours, a wedding and remixing the likes of U2, West Street Mobb and Stereo MC's. With his new jackin', ragga-topped, dirty house monster tune 'Everlasting Life' set for release this month (his first release in 2 years since his Monkey Mafia and Junior Cartier guises) Jon Carter is back and definitely on dancefloor business.

"Though their recordings are scarce ... they set a gold standard rarely seen in late Nineties dance." - The Face, June 99, on Jazzanova

Their love for deep jazz and modern beats has led their music to become a somewhat stunning amalgamation of retro and new sounds that echoes almost all musical styles from HipHop or Afrofunk to Drum & Bass, Boogie, Brazil, Latin, and Soul. Always reacting directly to new and fresh influences, Jazzanova have developed a percussion-oriented, sophisticated, clean and warm broken-beat-style that is constantly changing in form and allows no pigeon-holing. It's just simply Jazzanova and they are heading for Homelands this summer.

After the gorgeous shimmer of 'Hayling' and now the electro-pop funk of 'Glitterball' (both Pete Tong Essential new tunes!) FC Kahuna (aka Dan & John) are back with their sure to be massive 'Machine Says Yes' album this April. As an electrifying fusion of futurist acid house and silicon soul, driven by the sense of adventure and distaste for the mainstream that have always been the pair's stock in trade the Kahuna's are set to go supernova in 2002!

The Run-DMC inspired Harry Choo Choo Romero (the train conductor's cap worn since childhood may have something to do with the nickname) felt the impact of the Latin-freestyle movement in the 80s, and jump-started his career as a DJ with a high-voltage performance at a New Jersey dance club. With an already huge career of productions behind him and recent success with "Hazin & Phazin" which Defected licensed in the UK, "Just Can't Get Enough" featuring Inaya Day on vocals which AM:PM snapped up and consequently saw enter the top 40 in the UK national charts, Harry Choo Choo Romero will be steam-rolling into the house at Homelands.

Shades of Rhythm bring their classic early 90's rave sound to Homelands for what is gonna be a massive one-off reformation PA from the trio. With their 1991 hits 'Sound of Eden', 'Sweet Sensation' and 'Ecstacy' the band will be kicking off in the Retro Arena with longtime vocalist Rayan Gee screaming the house down.

"Totally floats my boat - I predict it will be in my box for months" says Norman Cook of the Plump DJ's top breaks new tune 'Big Groovy Fucker'. Fresh from playing to a crowd of 10,000 Plump fans in Sydney, Australia, Lee Rous & Andy Gardner aka The Plump DJs return with their first single in over a year which as well as full support from Fat Boy Slim has seen Radio One's Mary Anne Hobbs, Annie Nightingale and Steve Lamacq go equally ballistic whilst being Single of the Month in this February's Muzik magazine to boot. 2002 promises to be a hell of a year for the Plump DJs and with Homelands on the cars it couldn't get much better.

Born and bred in Brazil's music and clubbing capital Sao Paolo, DJ Patife regularly plays large 5000+ capacity raves in Sao Paolo and hosts some of Brazil's best dance music radio shows - Nova FM, Metro FM and 97 FM. Joining fellow Brasilian DJ Marky in the Movement Arena, DJ Patife will be representing the South American Drum N Bass contingent in full effect at this years Homelands!

Also joining the MASSIVE line-up for Homelands this year are:

Anti-Pop Consortium, Ali B, Uncut feat. Jenna G (live), Sander Kleinenberg, Lisa Lashes, John 00 Fleming, John Kelly, Nick Warren, Lee Burridge, James Zabeila, Hernan Cattaneo, Robbie Butler, Bryan Gee, Cinematic Orchestra, Signum, Saeed and Palash, Corvin Dalek, Benji B, Tim Delux, Paul Woolford, James Holroyd, Scot Project and Anderson Noise.
