When first listening to ‘The Long Face’ by Minus the brass section stands out and seems fairly original. It certainly isn’t ska music but it has that influence. The music is band orientated with a pop/rock sound that gets a lot heavier during the chorus. This effect doesn’t work as well as when Placebo do it. To be honest it seems like a lot of noise without that much order to it and it certainly isn’t punk. Minus seem to be approaching their sound with a few influences that gel
fairly well but I’m not sure how effective it is. It’s a shame as they appear quite talented. I guess there’s a lot of potential with ‘The Long Face’ and it certainly has energy and angst. It’s not a bad tune and perhaps Minus will develop into something unique. Let’s hope so.
