Following the craze of new wave guitar music, Maximo Park are fitting nicely into this scene with ‘Apply Some Pressure’. These guys are certainly good musicians and the music is tight with a lot of heat. The musical style and vocal delivery is very similar to The Futureheads in the verses however the chorus kind of creates a more reflective space that stands out from the overall up tempo highly charged performance of the guitar, bass and drums. ‘Fear of Falling’, the other track on this single, has influences from the Smiths, The
Beatles and Blur and is another well executed track with a real bouncy feel and intelligent arrangement. This band certainly is right on the button with the spirit of new wave so if you love The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and The Kaiser Chiefs, I’m sure this CD will stand well in your record collection.
