Leaves - Interview
The Leaves made their debut back in 2002 with album ‘Breathe’. Now 2 and a half years down the line the band have made an addition with new drummer Noi. A new album, The Angela Test will be released in the UK later on in the year. Contactmusic.com caught up with the Icelandic boys, Arnar (singer) and Hallur (bassist) whilst on tour with Supergrass.

So how is your day going?

Very well thanks. It’s great to be back on the road and back in England.

How is the UK treating you?

We have had a great Reception. Since we have been in the UK we have toured with 13 senses and now as you know we are supporting Supergrass. We came over at the start of May and won’t leave until the beginning of June. It’s been non stop gigging since we arrived. We love it though; it’s how we have fun.

It’s been a couple of years since you released breathe, what’s been going on?

Well after breathe was released in Europe we released it in America. We only spent a couple of months over there but we were quite busy. As soon as we got back we were straight back in to the rehearsal rooms and started work on the new album. We spent the majority of our time in the rehearsal studios just getting all the songs sounding how we wanted them to. We wrote enough material for us to have made 2 albums but we had to cut down and choose our favorite tracks.

We still have a little wait until the album is released over here.

Yea I think it’s going to be released mid august time. Until then we are going into Europe and doing some dates then we have some festivals over here, we are definitely doing T In The Park and then we have a UK headline tour mid July just before the release of the album. We will also have to make a new video for the next single.

What is the next single going to be?

At the moment we think it’s going to be ”Good Enough”. That will be released just before the album.

How is life with supergrass?

It’s good; we were in Manchester last night. The venue and the crowd were brilliant.

Which song sums up your mood today?

Well we were playing “Wouldn’t it be nice” by the Beach Boys earlier on. I think that pretty much sums up the day.

The Beach Boys huh, who else do you enjoy listening to?

At the moment I have a lot of Beach Boys, I love their music. I’m also listening to Pink Floyd a lot of The Beatles, Nick Drake. I like a lot of bands like Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips also The Secret Machines, we played a couple of shows with them they are very good.

How do you unwind?

When we’re on tour we do tend to drink quite a lot! We do go through quite a lot of red wine and gin & tonic. The playstation is also a great way to relax, we play a lot of football on it.

What’s next for you guys?

We are going back home, we have to record some b sides. I think we all need to have a way to relax before the start of the next tour. I think we might go out to the countryside for a while; it’s very nice out there for relaxing.
