CHARLOTTE HATHERLEY
Bastardo
Double Dragon - 21 February 2005

CHARLOTTE HATHERLEY hits the ground running with the second single from her acclaimed debut LP, Grey Will Fade. Entitled BASTARDO and arguably one of the album’s highlights, it tells the cautionary tale of a one-night stand gone wrong. Rumours alleging it’s based on an experience Charlotte had some years ago are, she says, “an invented pyramid of piffle”.

As with its predecessor, Summer, the single comes loaded with the hook-laden melodies we’ve come to expect from CHARLOTTE

HATHERLEY which, as one reviewer commented, “Sounds like the Go-Go’s covering Abba”. The guitar driven track tells how her heart is broken by the theft of her precious Gibson SG … a warning for all girl guitarists out there.

The accompanying star stuffed video features, alongside Charlotte, David Walliams, as the dastardly lothario, as well as Simon Pegg, Alice Lowe, Julia Davis, Lucy Davies and Lauren Laverne. Directed by Edgar Wright - Shaun Of The Dead - it’s an epic homage to the golden age of those classic girls’ publications Jackie and My Guy.

Grey Will Fade genuinely surprised people with the quality of its songwriting. Now BASTARDO arrives like a three-minute burst of guitar pop genius from the talented hands of Ms Hatherley. Listen, and take heed. Released through Double Dragon Music, BASTARDO is available on ltd edition 7”, CD Single and DVD, which includes the video and behind the scenes footage.
