Charlotte Hatherley - Summer - Single Review

Charlotte Hatherley
Summer

A fantastic solo debut from the female ranks of one of the UK’s favourite bands. Charlotte Hatherley, guitarist with Ash has finally given us what we’ve all been waiting for, a rocky, melodic, fresh sound from a girl with guts.

‘Summer’ is as catchy as a Velcro scatch mit and ball - there is definitely no getting away from this little beauty, once its in your head, you’re gladly stuck with it.

Charlotte Hatherley - Summer - Single Review

As a solo performer it seems Hatherley has more opportunity to fully explore those fantastic harmonies for which we know her so well; combining them with a rocky, toe-tapping and more traditionally soulful sound than in her other guise with Ash.

B-sides ‘Commodore’ and ‘SMUT’ are by no means weaker tunes and would certainly hold their own on any album - just as catchy and with a definite touch of the Elastica’s about them.

8/10
