OriginalHeads03 / NoGoArea |
OriginalHeads03 / NoGoArea At a time when international boundaries and politics are very much at the forefront of people’s minds, comes the debut single from an eclectic ‘family’ of beat masters, mixers, producers, M.C.'s and DJs known as BorderCrossing. A collective or co-operative that are not so much ‘40’s and Blunts’ as ‘Peace and Love’. Ten or sometimes more members have been honed into shape by a trio of producers and mixers; Seorais Graham; Paul Mulvey and Alex Angol. This holy trinity have managed to defy the imaginary boundaries and lines that separate sound-systems all over London and have brought together those four points of the compass to produce an album of grooves and beats. Border Crossing’s contributors have an energy and positive vibe that speak at one hundred decibels of pure uniting r'n'b, soul, jazz, hip hop, breaks and blues. This debut vinyl 12” single ‘OriginalHeads03’ and ‘NoGoArea’ is an outstretched hand from the hip-hop fraternity of Border Crossing. Track 1 ‘OriginalHeads03’ featuring Rockwell is an extremely chilled slice of old school beats, from the opening “ghetto fabulous” horn to the mellow bassy tones and words of Rockwell’s rhymes. “Original heads are in the area, taken back to ‘93 - the era of the true M.C.” The flip-side, ‘NoGoArea’ is an even more laid back, humid, steamy offering with Usmaan on M.C. duties. Hailing from South East London via the North of England, Usmaan combines somehow the sultry grooves of a New York City summer in the projects with West London sound stylings and an edginess that can only be from South of the river. Together this first single is a perfect introduction to global harmony and inter state unification the Border Crossing way. Released on RG Records Monday June 23rd 2003 | |
