Boxer Oscar De La Hoya is set to become a property tycoon after agreeing to be part of a consortium hoping to develop housing, stores and entertainment complexes in Latino-heavy communities throughout California.

The former champion admits he was inspired to get involved in the business plan by former basketball great EARVIN `MAGIC' JOHNSON, who owns cinema chains and fast food diners throughout America.

De La Hoya says, "He's making money but also giving back."
