Oprah Winfrey has continued her generous gift-giving spree, by handing over a stack of her favourite items to 300 teachers from across America.

At the show, which was taped on Saturday (20NOV04) and aired in America yesterday (22NOV04), the educators were delighted to learn they were the recipients of the annual OPRAH'S FAVORITE THINGS - this year a $4.5 million (GBP2.5 million) giveaway that gives back to a deserving group.

Audience members received gifts totalling about $15,000 (GBP8,300) per person, more than three times as much as last year's $4,800 (GBP2,600) gift packages.

Among their impressive goodie bags were 30-inch widescreen LCD TVs, washers and dryers, SONY NOTEBOOK computers and trips to a spa resort in Arizona.

Winfrey, who admits she has long wanted to be a teacher herself, told the elated audience, "You give and give, and that is why I wanted to give you the hottest ticket in television."

Winfrey also gave away more than 270 PONTIAC G6 cars to audience members earlier this year (04).
