Blue Ivy Carter couldn't really have asked for a better start in life. Not only are her parents two of the biggest-selling recording artists on the planet, but it would appear that they have bagged her a pretty decent godmother, too - in the shape of the infamous talk show host Oprah Winfrey.
According to Marie Claire, JAY-Z and Beyonce were keen for Blue Ivy's godparents to be unrelated to the family and have chosen their "close friend" Oprah to be responsible for their daughter's wellbeing, should anything happen to them. The role of godfather has apparently been bestowed upon Ty Ty Smith - Jay Z's friend and tour manager. Many of Beyonce's fans may be surprised that she didn't choose one of her former Destiny's Child band-mates to take on the role and the extent of Oprah and Beyonce's friendship is not exactly clear, though Winfrey is currently the godmother to her best friend Gayle King's children.
Since her birth on January 7, 2012, Blue Ivy Carter has rarely been out of the news headlines - an impressive feat for one so young. Her father, Jay Z posted a song on his website to announce her arrival in the world, only to find himself the subject of criticism regarding the extra security that was put in place at the hospital where BEYONCÉ gave birth. Add to that, the speculation over what the couple were going to name their first child, this latest story will no doubt mean that Oprah's first job as godmother will be to go out and buy a new scrapbook for all the magazine cuttings.
