Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey thrilled Gwyneth Paltrow on her daytime show earlier this week (beg23AUG04) by giving the actress' baby daughter Apple her very own book club.

The multi-media superstar told Gwyneth the book club idea is her "favourite baby gift," which she has only given a couple of special friends.

The basket of 100 children's books was a thank you to the actress, who agreed to appear on her show to talk about motherhood and her new marriage to British rocker Chris Martin.

There were more surprises in store for the OSCAR winner - her mother, actress Blythe Danner, and pal SIR Anthony Hopkins filmed video messages for the new mum.

Paltrow teared up when her mother explained that her granddaughter gave her "a reason to live" after the loss of her husband, Gwyneth's father BRUCE, and told her daughter, "Not only are you a great actress, but you're a phenomenal person and mother. I love you deeply."

And Gwyneth was left speechless when her PROOF co-star Hopkins paid tribute to her acting skills, by stating, "She's the best one (actress) I've worked with. Gwyneth, it was a pleasure to be with you, to work with you, to meet you and to know you. I hope we do that again some time."
