One Direction have spent a night living in the Scandinavian wilderness fending for themselves during scenes filmed for their new 3D film 'This Is Us'.
One Direction were living in the wild during filming for their new 3D movie.
The boy band heart throbs spent a night sleeping rough and ''foraging'' for food in scenes recorded for 'This Is Us' in what has been described as an ''extreme survival-type feature''.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''This was one of the last scenes left to be filmed for the boys' movie so they really gave it their all.
''It's a back-to-basics, extreme survival-type feature and the lads were all up for roughing it overnight.
''They were foraging for things to eat and even had to scrounge some bedding and sleep on the ground. It was a world away from the plush hotels they've become accustomed to.''
Despite being flown into the Scandinavian woodland in a helicopter and being accompanied by the film crew, it is said the 'Live While We're Young' hitmakers each wanted to play ''adventurer.''
The group - made up of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik - are big fans of British survival expert Bear Grylls and thrived on the chance to recreate what they've seen on his TV shows.
The insider added: ''They grew up watching shows like Bear's 'Born Survivor' and they all really wanted to try their hand at playing adventurer.
''Obviously, they weren't entirely alone - there were a fair few crew members about.
''But it was a great chance for Liam, in particular, to dust off his old boy scout skills. He can make a fire with some twigs, no sweat.''
