Aaron's Green Bay Packers lost to the Atlanta Falcons 44-21 in the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship game on Sunday (22Jan17), meaning he would not lead them out at the showpiece event next month (Feb17).

In the wake of the defeat, Olivia, 36, who has been dating Aaron, 33, since 2014, posted a handwritten note to fans on Instagram.

"So proud of this team," her message to fans read. "They faced a lot of adversity on and off the field, but battled to get this far. THANK YOU to those of you who encouraged and supported them by choosing to put out only positive energy. It helped them get this far."

The quarterback's team began their National Football League (NFL) season badly, with Aaron drawing heavy criticism before rebounding to lead the Packers agonisingly close to their first Super Bowl since 2011.

Olivia's note alluded to adversity on and off the field, and her boyfriend, who is reportedly estranged from his family, has had to weather reports of his continued estrangement from his family with a recent report by editors at sports website Bleacher Report dating the beginning of the Rodgers family rift to December 2014, shortly after he began dating Olivia.

A source alleged to Us Weekly,"When he got together with Olivia Munn, his family told him they didn't trust her and thought she wasn't with him for the right reasons. That made him furious, and he ended up choosing Olivia over his family."

The rift first became public knowledge when Aaron's brother Jordan won the reality series The Bachelorette last year (16) and informed his new fiancee JoJo Fletcher she was unlikely to meet the star athlete.

Speaking to the New York Times ahead of his son's appearance in Sunday's NFC Championship Game which he wouldn't be attending, Aaron's father Ed confirmed the Bleacher Report story was largely accurate, adding that it was "hard to tell" if relations with his son had thawed.

Aaron has refused to comment publicly and told the New York Times that he did not know if his brother would attend Sunday's game.
