Rappers Odd Future have been pulled from the line-up at a festival in New Zealand over complaints about the group's controversial lyrics.
The hip-hop collective, which has repeatedly come under attack for allegedly promoting misogyny and homophobia in their rhymes about rape and murder, was due to perform at the Big Day Out event in Auckland in January (12), but the group's appearance has now been axed after gay rights activists expressed their concerns to organisers and local city council members.
However, promoter Ken West is still keen on staging a show with Odd Future and is working with the group to arrange a separate headlining concert.
He says, "We are currently in discussions with Odd Future and will be announcing their own solo show for Auckland in the coming weeks."
It's the second time in a week Odd Future have hit headlines for all the wrong reasons - rapper Left Brain was accused of lashing out at a female photographer during the band's set at the Voodoo Experience music festival in New Orleans, Louisiana last weekend (30Oct11).
