Frank Ocean's mother has come out in strong support of her son after the Odd Future man came out about his sexuality in public yesterday. Ocean had written a lengthy blog post on his tumblr account, explaining that the first person he ever fell in love with was a man, when he was 19. The admission was a big surprise, especially given that his group Odd Future are known for their controversial lyrics and repeated use of the word "fa***t" - although this is largely down to their leader Tyler the Creator.
In a series of Tweets, Ocean's mom wrote "My son is brave and honest and I am very proud of him. I wish more people in the world could be brave enough to be who they really are. Thank you to all who have shown love and support. My son is the most incredible human I know. Honest, true and loving. We appreciate you!" She also retweeted a couple of messages, one by Russell Simmons who wrote that he'd been "profoundly moved by the courage" of the artist, and another which said "I salute you, brave soul. Independence Day. frank_ocean".
The support for Ocean was widespread, with his band mate Tyler congratulating his courage in coming out, whilst other well-wishers included Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy and British singer ED SHEERAN.
