Oasis have jumped straight in at the top of the UK singles chart with THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE, knocking teen group McFly off the number one spot.

The Importance Of Being Idle is the second single from the latest Oasis album, DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUTH, to reach number one in Britain. McFly's I'LL BE OK has fallen seven places from pole position to number eight.

Rihanna is a new entry at number two with PON DE REPLAY, while DANIEL POWTER sits at number three with BAD DAY.

Former BLUE singer Simon Webbe is another new entry at number four with his debut solo single LAY YOUR HANDS.

James Blunt's YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL slips from second place to number five, following a five week reign at number one.

However, Blunt continues to hold the top spot in the album charts - his Back To Bedlam disc is enjoying its seventh week at number one.

At number two is a new entry for Goldfrapp, with their third album SUPERNATURE.

Coldplay's X+Y and KAISER CHIEFS' EMPLOYMENT both fall a position to numbers three and four respectively.

At number five is a new entry for Craig David, with his latest album THE STORY GOES.
