The veteran musician grew up in Walsall, England and reveals sledging with his friends at an old quarry inspired a special line in his band's famous festive song.
"As a lad we used to knock sledges together with old orange boxes and go tobogganing down this big old quarry in the snow at Christmas," he told Britain's Event magazine. "It was the inspiration for the line 'Are you hoping that the snow will start to fall.' in Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody."
Noddy goes on to insist he learned to live with his reputation as a Christmas icon because of the track.
"People think I live in a cave all year and come out in December shouting 'It's Christmas!'"
