Spencer Elden, the baby on the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind, has recreated his iconic swimming pool shot for the 25th anniversary of the album.
Released in September 1991, the album made a huge splash with hits like Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are, and it's eyecatching cover photo of a newborn swimming underwater chasing a dollar bill on a hook raised a few eyebrows.
Elden, now 25, has recreated the pose at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena, California.
"I said to the photographer (John Chapple), 'Let’s do it naked', but he thought that would be weird, so I wore my swim shorts," Elden told the New York Post."
"The anniversary means something to me. It’s strange that I did this for five minutes when I was four months old and it became this really iconic image," Spencer told The Guardian in 2015. "I don’t think my parents really gave my taking part in this shoot too much thought. They knew who Nirvana were, but weren’t really into the grunge scene."
Elden has explained in the past his dad was attending art school when pal Kirk Weddle asked him if he'd be interested in making some money.
He said, "(Kirk said), 'Do you want to make some money today and throw your kid in the pool?' And he agreed. My parents took me down there... dunked me in, took some pictures, and pulled me out. And that was it. They were paid $200 and went to eat tacos afterwards. No big deal."
