Veteran musician Nile Rodgers is writing an online blog to help others who have been struck down with cancer.
The Chic star, who recently scored a number one hit with Daft Punk's Get Lucky, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010, but he was given the all-clear a year later (11).
Rodgers, 60, is now helping others battling the disease by writing an online journal detailing his experiences, and he admits the process has been sad as well as inspirational.
He tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "Since it happened to me and I started a blog I have seen dozens of people not make it through a week."
In his latest blog post, which he uploaded this week (beg10Jun13), Rodgers details meeting a charity volunteer suffering from cancer. The star was so moved by the man's dedication, he offered him a job with one of his charity organisations.
He writes, "I don't cry very often, but I cried the other day. Not because I was sad, but because I was happy. I'd spoken to a person who'd volunteered to work at one of my charity events. He'd recently been told that cancer had returned to his body after he had been cancer free for a while - and this time it was much worse.
"I said to him after his chemotherapy treatments are over I'd have a job waiting for him with my organisation... I never know where or when inspiration will come. The volunteer's positive attitude inspired me and the feeling was overwhelming. I know what it's like to fight cancer. I know what it's like to lose your will and I know what it's like to get it back."
