Images purportedly showing the couple in a domestic dispute were published by Britain's Sunday People newspaper this weekend (16Jun13), and although no complaint has been filed against Saatchi, officials at London's Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they are currently looking into the case to determine "whether an investigation is necessary".
The former advertising boss has since played down the drama fall-out from the publication of the pictures, telling The Evening Standard, "About a week ago, we were sitting outside a restaurant having an intense debate about the children, and I held Nigella's neck repeatedly while attempting to emphasise my point.
"There was no grip, it was a playful tiff (altercation). The pictures are horrific but give a far more drastic and violent impression of what took place... We had made up by the time we were home."
Lawson, the 53-year-old daughter of Britain's former Chancellor of the Exchequer Nigel Lawson, has yet to speak out about the headline-grabbing photos, but her representative has confirmed the Tv chef is no longer living with Saatchi, revealing, "Nigella and her children have moved out of the family home."
Saatchi maintains he suggested Lawson leave the house with her children, telling The Evening Standard, "The paparazzi were congregated outside our house after the story broke yesterday morning, so I told Nigella to take the kids till the dust settled."
The couple wed in 2003.
