Nicolas Cage's The Croods won a battle with G.I. Joe: Retaliation to hold onto the top spot at the U.K. box office for a second consecutive weekend.

The animated caveman comedy proved popular in the U.K. over the Easter Weekend (30-31Mar13) taking in $4.9 million (£3.3 million) and leaving Channing Tatum's action sequel in second place with earnings of $4.2 million (£2.8 million).

Danny Boyle's thriller Trance, starring the director's ex-girlfriend Rosario Dawson and James MCAvoy, debuted in third place with $2.4 million (£1.6 million).

Nicholas Hoult's fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer slipped two places down the beanstalk into fourth position, pulling in $1.8 million (£1.2 million), while sci-fi drama The Host enters the box office in fifth position with $1.5 million (£991,000).
