Nicola Roberts, the 25-year-old British singer and member of Girls Aloud, is looking to emulate her band-mate Cheryl Cole by launching her own solo career, reports the UK's Daily Mail. Nicola Roberts will release her debut single 'Beat of My Drum' on 5th June, with an album titled 'Cinderella's Eyes' to follow in the autumn.
Nicola Roberts says she is anxious about going-it alone, but insists she is happy with the sound of her first single, saying, "It was important my first single was different to anything else around. I love that it's a song everyone can sing and dance along to", adding, "The album has a very British sound, that was important to me. I co-wrote all of the songs on the record. The stories I tell in the album are things that have happened to me and life in general". Roberts, who has been working on the first single with producers Dimitri Tikovoi and Diplo, says she is ready to get out of her "safe bubble" with the hugely successful Girls Aloud. Fellow band-mate Cheryl Cole has already had two number-one albums in the UK, and recently confirmed herself as a judge on Simon Cowell's forthcoming 'Us X Factor. Girls Aloud's Nadine Coyle released her debut album 'Insatiable' in November 2010.
Nicola Roberts, well known for her red hair and fair skin, won a place in Girls Aloud following her appearance on Itv's reality television show 'Popstars: The Rivals' back in 2002.
