Nicki Minaj is glad she remembered to thank her hairdresser Terence Davidson during an acceptance speech at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night (18Nov12) - because she would be lost without the stylist.

The Starships singer admits the hair guru is largely responsible for her zany look and multi-coloured styles - and she often kicks herself after awards shows because she doesn't thank him publicly.

But she remembered at the Amas and now she's explaining why it was so important to mention him.

She tells Los Angeles DJ Ryan Seacrest, who presented a tribute to music and Tv mogul DICk Clark at the awards ceremony, "It's so sad that I always forget to thank him, and he's been creating my thing... for a few years now and he's also one of my best friends... He's always there rooting me on from the sidelines.

"Ninety per cent of the time I tell him what I wanna do and he creates it... I never even knew that there was somebody out there who would kind of create the things that I saw in my brain until one day, a few years ago, we were on the set of a video and he had rollers in this wig. Half was out and half was still in.

"I was like, 'You know what, I kinda like that! Can you leave one side curly and one side straight and one side blonde and one side pink... I ended up wearing my hair like that."

Minaj was a double winner at the Amas, picking up honours for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
