Canadian rockers Nickelback's album was hastily added to the list of this year's (04) JUNO nominations for Album of the Year, after the award bosses mistakenly left the disc off.

When organisers of Canada's most prestigious music awards realised their error, they quickly added album THE LONG ROAD, late on Thursday (12FEB02).

One official involved in the process said it was a "very, very complicated situation," adding, "It's never happened before."

The error came to light hours after members of the CANADIAN ACADEMY OF RECORDING ARTS AND SCIENCES raised some questions when the nominations were announced on Wednesday (11FEB04).

A CARAS statement said, "This nomination results from the discovery of a data-entry error. Due to this, the album of the year category will, for 2004 only, contain six nominees. The Long Road by Nickelback should have been originally named as a nominee."

The move takes nominations for the Canadian band up to five, making them the leaders of the pack along with SARAH MacLACHLAN and Nelly Furtado for the awards ceremony to be held 4 April (04) in Edmonton.
