British animator Nick Park has scored another major hit in America with his beloved claymation characters WALLACE + GROMIT.

Park's new feature length project, WALLACE + GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT, has shot to the top of the US box office in its opening weekend.

The film took in $16.1 million (GBP8.9 million) to topple Jodie Foster's mile high thriller FLIGHTPLAN from the number one spot, and beat other new movies, including Cameron Diaz's In Her Shoes and Al Pacino's new sports betting drama Two for the Money, to the top.

In Her Shoes and Two For The Money debuted at numbers three and four respectively.

Other new entries on the new box office chart include THE GOSPEL at number five and restaurant comedy WAITING at number seven.
