The pop star and his actress wife Vanessa Lachey bought the seven-bedroom mansion in Encino, California for $4.15 million (£3.1 million) from the family of Latin star Jenni, who died in a plane crash in 2012, aged 43.
The sale went through in June (16), and Nick wrote her family a letter to assure them he will respect the house and preserve their memories because he knows what the property meant to them.
"It was a very, very special home to them and for them to have to part with it, I can only imagine. It was a very emotional process," the singer told Etonline.com. "We just wanted to make it clear that it's a special home to us as well and all the great memories that they have, we hope to create our own memories in their honour.
"A lot of times when you buy a house, it's just a business thing," Lachey continued. "But houses (are) chapters of our lives that we want to remember fondly and we just wanted to make it clear to them that we respected the house and respected them and wanted to kind of carry on their love."
Rivera lived in the home from 2008. Nick, 42, bought the property after offloading his former bachelor pad in Los Angeles for almost $4 million (£3 million).
Nick and Vanessa married in 2011 and have two children; son Camden, three, and 17-month-old daughter Brooklyn.
The singer is gearing up to head out on a reunion tour with his old band 98 Degrees and other groups O-Town, Ryan Cabrera and Dream from 8 July (16) in Kansas, and admits he will miss his family while on the road.
"It's just us on the tour bus like the old days," he said. "I will actually be missing my five-year wedding anniversary, because I'll be with these schmucks out on the road somewhere. So I expect a big cuddle after the show."
