Rosalia Mera, the seamstress who co-founded the fashion empire that became Zara, has died at the age of 69.

Mera, who was Spain's richest woman, reportedly suffered a stroke on vacation in Menorca and passed away on Thursday night (15Aug13).

She founded the first Zara store in 1975 with her then-husband, Armancio Ortega, who is listed by Forbes as the world's third-richest person.
