Writer/producer Richard Collins has passed away, aged 98.
He died of pneumonia in Ventura, California on Thursday (14Feb13).
Known for the episodes of beloved Tv shows Bonanza and Matlock he brought to the screen, Collins, who retired from showbusiness in 1992, was blacklisted during the 1940s communist witch-hunts led by U.S. Senator Joseph MCCarthy.
In 1947 he testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee and divulged names of communist sympathisers in Hollywood.
He was subpoenaed again in 1951, and identified more than 20 colleagues as possible communists, including On the Waterfront screenwriter Budd Schulberg and former collaborator Paul Jarrico.
