The 91-year-old passed away at his home in Paso Robles, California on Monday (04Jan15).

Born in Australia, Armitage started working for Disney in the early 1950s and his first project involved creating animation for Lady and the Tramp. His work can also be seen in Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty.

He turned his attention to Disney's themeparks in the late 1970s, becoming one of the company's 'Imagineers' and helped create figures for Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Armitage retired from Disney in 1989 to study Eastern medicine.
